In the period of 15-17 August, a workshop was held, aimed to emphasize the role of mass-media in promoting the National Plan for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. The event was supported by the Global Nertwork of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) in partnership with the Bureau of Reintegration, the Foreign Policy Association (APE) and the Gender Center.
The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize the media representatives from different regions of the Republic of Moldova and the communicators within the public institutions with the issues related to the implementation of Resolution 1325, to highlight properly in the media content the gender aspects and the involvement of women in the processes of peace and security.
We recall that Resolution 1325 was adopted unanimously in 2000 and is the first international framework document to underline the impact of conflicts on women as well as their role in all aspects of peace processes, including conflict prevention peacekeeping and other field based operations. The resolution is binding for all UN member states without the need for further rectification.
