On September 14, the Foreign Policy Association (APE) organized the second public consultation within the project “Strengthening civil society’s engagement in national security protection under new hybrid threats: challenges, opportunities and key decisions”, which focused on the issue of gender equality in the security and defence sectors. During the discussion, the dynamics of the implementation of the UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security were analyzed, the role of women in the processes of mediating military conflicts and peacekeeping missions was highlighted, as well as the topic of the perspectives of capitalizing on the dimension of gender in the fields of security and defence.
Among the participants of the event are representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, the General Inspectorate of the Carabinieri, the “Ștefan cel Mare” Academy of the MAI, the Association of Women in the National Army, the Military Academy of the Armed Forces, the Center for Information and Documentation on NATO, Police Women’s Association, Platform for Security and Defense Initiatives, UN Women. They emphasized the problems faced by women working in the field of security assurance and came up with useful proposals and recommendations to encourage the representation of women in management positions and to create a favourable environment for their activity.
The public consultation is organized within the project “Strengthening civil society’s engagement in national security protection under new hybrid threats: challenges, opportunities and key decisions” implemented by APE in partnership with Nord News, the Pro-Europe European Center in Comrat and the Security Zone, funded by a grant from the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) with support from the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
